ลำโพงไร้สายรุ่นใหม่จากทาง JBL เป็นการอัพเกรดบางจุดจากในรุ่นก่อน ทางด้านการออกแบบนั้น ตัวลำโพงมีการเปลี่ยนแปลงที่น้อยมากๆ และยังคงมีขนาดที่ไม่ใหญ่มากในความสูง 18 เซนติเมตรและมีน้ำหนัก 540 กรัม สำหรับปุ่มควบคุมนั้นมีทั้งหมดเพียงแค่ 6 ปุ่มเท่านั้น คือปุ่มเปิด/ปิด, ปุ่ม Bluetooth, ปุ่ม Pay/Pause, ปุ่มเพิ่มเสียง, ปุ่มลดเสียง, และปุ่มใช้งานโหมด JBL Partybox ซึ่งจะเป็นการเชื่อมต่อเข้ากับลำโพงไร้สายของ JBL ที่รองรับการใช้งาน Partybox เมื่อใช้แล้วจะเป็นการเชื่อมลำโพงไร้สายของ JBL เข้าด้วยกันเพื่อเพิ่มพลังเสียง สำหรับสเป็คภายในนั้น JBL Flip 5 เป็นลำโพงระบบเสียง 2.1 Stereo โดยไดรเวอร์ภายในนั้นเป็นไดรเวอร์แบบ Racetrack Driver มีกำลังขับโดยรวม (RMS) ที่ 20 วัตต์ รองรับความถี่ Frequency Range ที่ 65Hz – 20kHz และแน่นอนว่าเมื่อ JBL Flip 5 เป็นลำโพงแบบพกพาใช้งานข้างนอก ทำให้มาพร้อมกับมาตรฐานกันน้ำระดับ IPX7 ซึ่งสามารถกันน้ำสาดหรือตกน้ำในความลึกไม่เกิน 1 เมตรได้ถึง 30 นาที สำหรับแบตเตอรี่นั้นสามารถใช้ได้ยาวนานมากถึง 12 ชั่วโมง และชาร์จเพียงแค่ 2.5 ชั่วโมง ซึ่งใช้เวลาน้อยกว่า JBL Flip 4 ถึงหนึ่งชั่วโมงเพราะ JBL Flip 5 เปลี่ยนมาใช้ช่องเชื่อมต่อ USB-C แทน Micro USB
